If I'm honest I'm not overly interested in watching the new releases this week. I've sort of lost faith in the Disney "live action" remakes at this stage and I just did not find Asteroid City funny in any way last year. Trailer wise I'm a huge Matt Smith fan and I do really enjoy the recent IT films so I will keep them in mind.
I also saw Mission Impossible film last night and while I really enjoyed the action scenes I don't think the film needed to be as long as it was. I really don't mind a longer film (given a lot of films nowadays are 2 and a half hours plus I'm kind of used to it). But I just felt like it took a while for the film to get going and to show us the stunts that (I assume) a lot of people have bought a ticket to see. I think if you cut out the flashbacks and nods to earlier films we would end up with a 1hr 45 minute / 2 hr film that manages its time much better.
I'm OK with longer running times too, but Final Reckoning does struggle to justify its 170 mins. I got a bit frustrated with all the flashbacks too, felt like we were randomly channel-hopping to Film4 (where the M:I films always seem to be on).
I completely agree. And if they ditched the flashbacks we would probably get a fair chunk of the runtime back. I would be surprised if many people started with the 8th and (supposedly) final film
